How this calculator estimates ovulation
Cycle day 1 is the first day of the last period. The calendar model estimates the ovulation cycle day as usual cycle length − 14, then counts from cycle day 1.
Estimated ovulation cycle day = usual cycle length − 14
Estimated ovulation date = LMP + (ovulation cycle day − 1) calendar days
For example, 28 days → CD14 and 30 days → CD16. The “− 1” matters because the LMP itself is already cycle day 1.
The estimated next period is the LMP plus the entered usual cycle length. It represents the first day of a hypothetical next cycle if that usual length repeats; it is not guaranteed. This page estimates one entered cycle only and does not automatically roll forward or forecast later cycles.
What the fertile window means
Pregnancy Metrics uses ASRM's six-day calendar fertile-window definition: the estimated ovulation day and the five previous days. The higher-fertility estimate highlights the two days before estimated ovulation, without assigning an individual pregnancy probability.
ACOG notes that sperm may survive for several days and an egg may remain viable for roughly 24 hours after ovulation. Calendar boundaries therefore are not guaranteed biological cutoffs: dates outside the highlighted window should not be interpreted as proof that pregnancy is impossible.

When calendar estimates are less dependable
- Substantial cycle-length variation can make a simple calendar estimate less dependable.
- Even apparently regular cycles can vary in the real timing of ovulation.
- An uncertain LMP, absent periods, known ovulation disorders, or fertility and hormonal treatment can change how this model applies.
- Cycles outside 21–35 days are outside this calculator's supported model range; that boundary is not a diagnosis.
- The calculator cannot establish whether ovulation occurred or when it occurred.
Not for contraception
Do not use this calculator by itself to decide when unprotected sex is “safe.” Calendar-estimated dates cannot establish non-fertile days. This is a preconception timing estimate, not a contraceptive method.
It does not output safe days, unsafe days, low-risk days, green days, or no-pregnancy days, and it does not estimate pregnancy probability.
